Welcome to Red Hen online!

WINNER OF THE PRESTIGIOUS NURSERY WORLD 'NURSERY OF THE YEAR' 2013 AWARD!          "It is hard to imagine a more rewarding and interesting place for a child to be than Red Hen Day Nursery..." (Wendy Scott, for Nursery World)

"RED HEN IS A PLACE WHERE CHILDREN THRIVE" (Sue Palmer 2009, Ofsted 2013, Nursery World 2013)

Red Hen is an award-winning Day Nursery and Nature Kindergarten situated on owner David and Jane Harrison’s working farm close to the market town of Louth in lovely rural Lincolnshire. As such it offers children from 0-5 years a fantastic chance to experience the many benefits of a childhood in the countryside. "Children make notable progress in all aspects of their development, and staff are also encouraged to grow professionally and personally" (NW 2011).  Enhanced ratios ensure that all children's needs are met whether baking or playing and learning indoors, or playing and exploring in our extensive grounds outdoors. GOOD FOOD is integral to daily life at Red Hen and we are proud to be members of SELECT LINCOLNSHIRE, past winners of 'The George Award' for the work we do in educating children about food, past winner of NURSERY WORLD FOOD AWARD, FINALIST FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS BBC FOOD AND FARMING AWARDS 2012 and WINNER of best teaching establishment at the SELECT LINCOLNSHIRE FOOD AWARDS 2013 and highly commended 2014. Please see our monthly menus on the parents section.

Rated Outstanding in EVERY area by Ofsted, Red Hen knows what children need for optimum development and early learning. To this aim we combine up-to-date research, the best of past theorists and philosophers, elements of Scandinavian practice, and lots of practical real-life experiences. Our outstanding and passionate baby team ensure that babies benefit from respectful care, plenty of time on the floor, and from being outdoors too. This good start helps children thrive as they progress through their early years at Red Hen.

Life on a farm is exciting and ever-changing; it offers a plethora of learning opportunities which everyone at Red Hen enjoys. As Professor Hawkins famously quoted 'be curious' - at Red Hen we really do help the children to develop an enquiring mind which will help them on their life-journey enjoying new challenges, adventures and learning.

Red Hen is forward-thinking in many ways, including eco-conscious. Photovoltaic panels on the grainstore roof which provide Red Hen with electricity, supporting the ethos of making the most of the natural environment.

What they say about Red Hen
focussed on a welcoming, family environment, that feels like a home from home. Outdoors play is a key feature which is so important to us for our daughter. Wholesome, fresh local food served daily. Staff are friendly and approachable. Couldn’t ask for a better place for our daughter.
